AC adapter stands for alternating current adapter and is used to charge electronic devices; such as your laptop. Your laptop charger changes the AC power that it receives from an electrical outlet and converts it into voltage that the laptop needs in order to work. There are several big brands of laptops such as Toshiba, Dell, and HP. When purchased, these laptops are usually accompanied with a certain AC adaptor for that brand. Not any laptop charger will be compatible for every laptop, so if a charger is ever in need of replacement, the consumer would sometimes have to go out and find that certain AC adaptor for his or her laptop. Sometimes Asus laptop charger will cease to work, and if that ever happens, a replacement might not always need to be a specific brand and make. There are also other types of chargers that are compatible with a number of different types of laptops.
